If you’ve never been to Hel… (one ‘L’) – we recommend you go!
Simply board the boat at the end of the Sopot pier like we did (or you can get one from Gdansk and Gdynia too) and enjoy the 1.5hr boat ride across the Gdansk bay to the beautiful forest-filled Hel peninsula.
The boat trip is reasonable at 35zl per adult one way, you can also buy the return straight away for 70zl, or like us, you can choose to get the hourly train back to Sopot via Gdynia.

Get to the ticket office early, as it opens at 9.30am and queues form quite quickly with keen Hel-adventurers.
The train takes 2 hours to Sopot in total, but you do get to see the whole peninsula with the sea either side and all the seaside resorts as you go past. So you get the best of both worlds.
The boat has a bar with drinks and snacks and you can walk around on 2 levels and enjoy the Gdansk bay from all angles. It’s a beautiful view as you leave the Sopot pier and the lovely beach front hotels, you also get to see the city of Gdynia in the distance. There’s also music playing on board so it feels like a proper holiday boat trip with people sunbathing on deck 🙂
We got the 11am boat which got us there for 12.30pm, and we went straight to the Hel harbour for a well deserved fish lunch. Delicious.
The last boat back is at 5pm, which is why we waited and got an 8pm train back to Sopot instead to maximise our time in Hel.
